Erick Nelson – Flow River Flow
Maranatha! Music – 1976
Best track: Picking Up The Pieces
Early Maranatha! Music recording of piano-driven tracks by an artist as well known for his apologetics as his music in the mid-to-late 70′s. He was also the principal songwriter for the Good News and Good News II records which included (among others) Bill Batstone, Bob Carlisle and Keith Green. He later teamed up with Michelle Pillar to record the groundbreaking “The Misfit.”
Rockin’ instrumental (jazz/rock) with one or two vocal tracks. This one was never released on CD (a shame). Great record for “summer drive with the top down” (and speakers blaring).
Can someone tell me the name and artist of a song with the words in the chorus, “I’ll give you wings”…or, “I will give you wings”.
It’s got a driving rhythm and some nice guitar riffs. For the life of me I can’t recall the artist or title, but I love the tune.
I’m looking for a gospel group in the 70s and 80s called The Beatitudes, from out of St Helens Oregon. Their first album was sang by Fred and Donna Rickert, along with Philip and Connie Lane. Connie and Donna were sisters. Connie Hamar Lane wrote most of the songs on the album. Later Fred and Donna published two more albums. One album was named “What a beautiful day,” and the other was, “The joy of knowing Jesus”. Recorded at Ripcord Recording Studios in Vancouver Wash, for Dove Music. The first Album with the songs Connie wrote is the album I’m looking for. I loved her beautiful songs. Roberta

Tom Karlsson (maybe one “s”?) album Dreamers Dream (I think) best song “Take ‘Em”. This is one of the very best drivin’ southern rock songs I’ve ever heard in Christian music. It’s on a par with What You Want For Me by Ed Raetzloff or Free Man by Mylon LeFevre or Wake Up by John Mehler or the original Almost Midnight by David and the Giants, and it has great guitar comparable to Eric Turner of Darryl Mansfield’s band. It must have come out in the early ’80s because I bought it at least by ’84. Most of what I purchased back then was on Sparrow, but I don’t promise this one was. He had long brown hair, mustache but no beard, sunglasses if memory serves. I think he was holding his guitar and I believe the background was blue.

Anything by Steve Apirana of New Zealand!!! He is the best blues guitarist in Christian Music — he bends as well as Johnny Adams (“Scarred Knees”) and plays a steel sound as well as the Campbell Brothers. His song about the forgiveness of the sins of the lame man lowered through the roof is one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard in Christian music.

David and the Giants original version of Almost Midnight. I had it years ago, and I seem to recall that it was only available at their concerts in the ’80s and only on cassette. The remake was nowhere nearly as good — the original has a crunchiness and southern rock jangliness that the more produced version lacks.
All Of David and The Giants recordings are available at Giant Records or GiantWorld Christian Music. They really are a great band. David Huff (lead singer and guitarist) is still recording.

Mark Heard, Ashes and Light — the #1 best desert island Christian album ever. Even better than Keaggy’s Crimson & Blue. A great southern rock feel somewhere between Alman Brothers and Lynard Skynyrd. Awesome introspective lyrics from the best Christian poet of the 1900s. Probably on Myrrh or Fingerprint, about 1984.

Brooks Williams of New England (New Hampshire? Massachusetts?) Christian folks singer of 1990s. Best song: Tulips In The Spring. He is difficult to find partly because his profane namesake from Canada also in folk music is far more prolific so searches yield little. Absolutely awesome music!

Skatman Meredith (New England I think?) song “Way of Life” (may have been the album name?). Great homespun Christian folk singer-songwriter of the 1990s.

Dan Smith — awesome black acoustic blues preacher along the lines of Pops Staples unplugged. Anything he did would be good, although the album produced by Buddy Miller was really tops.

Rick Elias’ first album. Early 1990s? Great straight-ahead rock from southern California I think. Saw him open for the Choir once and he stole the show. It wasn’t even worth staying after his set the comparison was so one-sided.

I’m looking for any music from the following artists:
-Wanda Lott, aka Wanda Lott-Simmons
-Andrae Crouch (any early, out-of-print stuff)
-Bob & Pauline Wilson
-The Brothers of Washington DC
-Singers Unlimited
-Breath Of Life Quartet
I went through my university years in the late 80s and early 90s introduced to artists like Whiteheart, Russ Taff, Michael W Smith et al I miss those feelings as I can’t seem to get my hands on the music that kept me that time. In particular: Adrian Snell (Father) and Coram Deo II. If you can get these…it would really make my day. Charlie Peacock’s “Unto you Lord” has been like an anthem to me when I pray and even though it’s been like a decade that I listened to it, I still remember most of the words.
Regularly referred to as the “John Denver” of Christian music). Acoustic guitar folk/pop with strings. Greg’s more recent recordings (post-2000) available at CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com).
Years ago I had a praise CD called Worship Time Vol. 1 that I think was from Maranatha but I could be wrong. I’ve been searching for this one for a long time . . . if someone has it that would be awesome.
Sara Groves has some bonus tracks on her pre-release orders that are no longer in print.
A bonus CD came with some copies of 2004′s “The Other Side of Something”, including some demos. I only have one Demo track of “Roll to the Middle” here: http://tinyurl.com/33kmzy7
Her 2009 pre-release of “Fireflies and Songs” had some bonus tracks, which were available from her website, but didn’t come with my pre-order from MusicChristian.com
I do have her 2007 “Tell Me What You Know” “James Fund Exclusive Tracks” (“Did You Ever Need a Song” and “Freedom”) here: http://tinyurl.com/262p8bk
Can anyone share some of her other demo & bonus tracks?
I would love to hear a song from the Allies’ Shoulder to Shoulder album – there was one called “Closer Than a Brother” – i tried to get it on itunes but i guess that was too long ago? It was such a beautiful song, esp for this stage of my life – it was a comfort when i was a teen, and it runs through my head as i comfort my own teens
