[amazon-mp3]0e1b199c-37cf-4b1f-89d9-f8e3c3498935[/amazon-mp3]In Another Land is the title of an album recorded by [intlink id="519" type="page"]Larry Norman[/intlink] and released in 1976. It is the third album in Norman’s “trilogy,” which began with [intlink id="972" type="post"]Only Visiting This Planet[/intlink] and continued with [intlink id="980" type="post"]So Long Ago the Garden[/intlink]. The album contains some of Norman’s most well-known work. [itunes link="http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-rock-that-doesnt-roll/id280469792?uo=4" title="In Another Land"]

Released: 1976
Length: 50:58
Label: Solid Rock Records
Producer: Larry Norman

A different version of the song “I Love You” was first recorded by Randy Stonehill on the now-rare album Born Twice, which was produced by Larry Norman back in 1969. That album credits Stonehill as the writer of the song. Norman’s version completely changes all the verses, retaining only the first line of the first verse of Stonehill’s original composition.

“Righteous Rocker #3″ is a reprise of a song which originally appeared on [intlink id="972" type="post"]Only Visiting This Planet[/intlink].

The album also contains a souped-up version of “Why Don’t You Look Into Jesus,” another song which made its first appearance on Only Visiting This Planet. In the later version the controversial second verse from the original (“Gonorrhea on Valentine’s Day / You’re still looking for the perfect lay,” etc.) is conspicuously absent.

“I Am A Servant” was recorded and popularized as a Christian pop ballad by Christian singer Honeytree.

On the liner notes to the LP “Dudley Moore” is credited as a piano player, while on the CD re-issue he is listed as guest pianist on the song “The Son Began To Rain”.

“Song For A Small Circle Of Friends” was a piece written for Norman’s famous friends in the music industry. The song includes allusions to Randy Stonehill, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney.

[amazon-mp3]3f978e2d-f84d-48f4-81d3-787fa8b3c58c[/amazon-mp3]So Long Ago the Garden is the title of an album recorded by Larry Norman, released in 1973. It is the second album in what came to be known as his “trilogy,” which began with the album Only Visiting This Planet and concluded with In Another Land. So Long Ago the Garden was controversial because Norman’s previously blatant Christian beliefs were more veiled on this album. In the song “Shot Down”, on the album In Another Land, Norman responded to accusations by fellow Christians that he had abandoned his faith in search of fame and fortune.[itunes link="http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/up-in-canada-1973-single-version/id280421672?uo=4" title="So Long Ago the Garden"]

Released: 1972
Length: 46:12
Label: MGM Records
Producer: Rod Edwards, Roger Hand, Jon Miller

A version of the song “Christmas Time” originally appeared on the rare album Born Twice, by Norman’s friend Randy Stonehill, which Norman had produced in 1969. On that LP, the song is credited as having been written by Stonehill, but So Long Ago the Garden credits Norman as the writer.

“Lonely By Myself” was recorded using the same mellotron The Beatles used on “Strawberry Fields Forever” while Paul McCartney was in the next room recording “Live and Let Die.”

The album was selected as the second album in [amazon-product text="CCM Presents: The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music" type="text"]0736902813[/amazon-product].[itunes link="http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/i-wish-wed-all-been-ready/id280300208?uo=4" title="Only Visiting This Planet"]
Released: 1972
Recorded: AIR Studios, London
Length: 53:50
Label: Verve
Producer: Rod Edwards, Roger Hand and Jon Miller
This album was recorded in London at George Martin’s AIR Studios in 1972.

In the song “Reader’s Digest” Norman sings the following verse: “Dear John, who’s more popular now? I´ve been listening to some of Paul’s new records. Sometimes I think he really is dead.” (referring to an urban legend alleging that Paul McCartney of The Beatles died in 1966 and was replaced by a look-alike and sound-alike.) “Who’s more popular now?” makes reference to John Lennon’s famous claim that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. The album features prog-rock bassist and Asia frontman, John Wetton on bass guitar.

This album was supposed to be number six in a series of fourteen albums, as mentioned on the inner sleeve of “Something New Under The Son” (albums number nine through fourteen have not been released, see part II). A three-LP boxed set containing albums #6, #7 & #8 and titled The Compleat Trilogy (as mentioned on the insert of the Street Level reissue of “Only Visiting This Planet”) has never been released. This boxed set should feature the trilogy as Larry Norman originally intended. The LP Only Visiting This Planet in this set should feature the complete version of “I Wish We’d All Been Ready.”
